READ N TRY – website about Chip Carving and Whittling

Hello, my name is Roman Chernikov. I enjoy wood carving as a hobby, so I started READ N TRY website to share my thoughts about chip carving and whittling. Throughout the years, I have designed many chip carving patterns, and I am excited to share them with you online. I hope my wood carving articles and chip carving patterns will help you to enjoy the woodcarving hobby as well.

Wood carving caught my attention in 2013 and I found it to be a very relaxing and rewarding hobby; hence, I joined the California Carvers Guild (CCG) in 2014 and I regularly attend the Santa Clara Valley Carvers club in Los Gatos, CA.

Volunteering at local shows and talking about chip carving

Roman is volunteering at Tri-Valley wood carving show in 2017. Talking about chip carving and whittling projects.

I carve 15-20 minutes a day to relax and recharge after a long day. Also, I volunteer at annual shows in the Bay Area by presenting my chip carving and whittling projects. For example, this photo was taken at the Tri-Valley Wood Carving Show in 2017.

Choosing woodcarving as a hobby allowed me exploring a completely new activity. Although learning how to sharpen tools was challenging, mastering woodcarving has brought me numerous benefits. For example, one advantage is the ability to create handmade gifts for my family and friends. Additionally, this hobby has introduced me to a community of talented artists who share the same passion for woodcarving. They helped me learn more about whittling, chip carving, and woodcarving in general.

Outdoor Activities

I live in San Jose, California and I like hiking local trails, so if you find yourself in the area let’s meet and have a walk or enjoy a coffee break together.
